Oban

High Cliff House, our B & B

They have ferries that will take you to other Hebrides Islands
and on tours.  We couldn't get one as the winds were going to be
too high in the afternoon.

Oban sits on the Firth of Lorn

View from McCaig Tower, an amphitheatre overlooking the town.
Heck of a hike up very steep streets.

They decorate any kind of pole with knitting.  It's very cute.

Catholic Cathedral

The signs are all in English and Gaelic.
They have hooks to which you can attach your dog.

Promenade where the town meets the firth (estuary)

1st Day in the Highlands Hiking near Loch Long (near Loch Lomond)

Left Ayrshire and headed to the highlands.  We drove alongside Loch Lomond up to Loch Long which is where we started our hike.
The northern end of Loch Long

Me on our hike
Bit steep at times
Easier part of the climb
Pretty toadstool en route up the mountain
Break time.
We got all kinds of weather thrown at us.
Picnic lunch in the rain
Sisyphus, in Greek mythology, the cunning king of Corinth who was punished in Hades by having repeatedly to roll a huge stone up a hill only to have it roll down again as soon as he had brought it to the summit.
Proudly made it to the summit.
Ram up on the mountain
View from the top
Amazing butterfly; have to look it up and figure out what it is.
We were doing well until this.  Aaargh.
View of distant hills.
Boulders everywhere.  Looks like giants threw them around.
Small part of Loch Long

Some interesting carvings
